Lake Wyman - La Fontana's Backyard....
Special attachment - "Friends of Gumbo Limbo" - Letter to City Council - see letter below...
Lake Wyman is a very unique area, nestled between the growth of the city and the beauty of Boca Raton. Surrounded by mangroves, seagrass and other native species... A slice of paradise where current inhabitants; manatees, birds and all the other native plants and animals thrive. Today a pristine oasis, with little to no trash, mild boating traffic, and a scenic area for anyone fortunate enough to travel through her waters...
The city council is revisiting the "Lake Wyman 2011 revitalization plan" -
This is a very conservative plan, with no indication / provisions for a boat ramp / launch.
It calls for the canoe / kayak trails (currently overgrown) to be dredged and reconditioned for public use. Additional provisions for trails and park enhancements...
The city appears to be "pro" placing a boat dock / ramp on the west side of lake Wyman (Rutherford)... In my opinion this could and likely would in time, alter the landscape to the detriment of the park.
The boating traffic would not benefit the Manatee's -
Lake Wyman can and should be revitalized as a nature preserve, a destination for canoers and kayakers alike. A place where the typical visitor stops to pick up a piece of trash - not one that drops on off!
